Seafair

For those not "in-the-no", Sea Fair is a yearly Seattle festival where people race those hydroplane boats real fast in a circle, sort of like aqua-NASCAR. Additionally there are air acrobatics perfomed by the Navy's Blue Angels and other various daredevils. I think about a billion people show up. This was the first time in its multi-decade history that Sea Fair experimented with having bands. I would say it was probably a success. It sure was for us personally as we had a kick ass time. I'll start off with this sweet cell phone video from Mugz. This was pretty much what I saw while on the stage playing my heart out. It was quite distracting trying to sing and play and seeing these crazy planes leaving trails everywhere. Dose was absent that day due to a family emergency, so we had our pal Kevin from Radio Shark sit in with us. It worked out fine. We arrived and had a golf-cart escort through the crowds to the back stage area. We hung around with The Dimes for a bit and then hit the stage. In mid-set, while planes were buzzing around, a person in a shining silver Fish suit approached the front of the stage. He started yelling insults at small children in the audience and then turned his verbal Piscean-assault on our band. At that point Jima and Jason lept from the stage and began a much more physical assault of their own upon the slanderous fish-man. Mugz dragged both band members back up onto the stage where they finished the set with no further disturbances. After the show The Purrs descended upon the beer garden with a vengence and much drinking and eating of cream cheese hot dogs ensued. Then it was back to Jason's house for a raging party that went into the wee hours culminating in the after 3 am appearance of none other than the Fishman! He apologized to us all, with his silver lamay fins at his side and his perpetually open mouth tilting down in shame. We hope they let us play again next year!!!

July 15 2007:Seattle, WA, USA
West Seattle Summerfest

We arrived right on time.

We pulled into the special reserved parking area right behind the stage.

As we got out of the van the stage manager guy comes over and handed us our paycheck for playing the show.

Mission Accomplished!....Everyone hopped back into the van and we prepared to leave.

It was only because Jason begged us not to, so we decided to stay and actually play the show.

He was always the one with a soft spot for honesty. :)

We unloaded our gear behind the stage while the act before us (I never caught their name, they were kind of Latin sounding) finished up their set.

It was then we were informed that we would not be allowed to bring beer onto the stage with us.

As we prepared to leave, Jason once again appealed to our sense of decency, so we unloaded the van a second time and scurried off to get beer before we had to hit the stage.

Jason rewarded us by letting us know he'd brought along some Maker's Mark in a hollowed out chamber in the back of his Jazzmaster.

I was drinking down the last of my Manny's as the other band finished pulling their stuff off the stage.

I tossed the cup and proceeded to exit out of the "beer garden".

It was then I was informed by the "beverage enforcement" guy that I'd gone out the entrance.

"What?!?" I said, truly baffled.

"You went out the entrance, you have to go out the exit."

It was then I noticed 2 little photocopied signs taped to either side of a single pole.

One said "Entrance" one said "Exit".

I'd apparently passed by the side of the pole with the word "Entrance".

"You have to come back and go around this side of the pole."

"You have got to be kidding," said I as I started looking around for a real exit.

I turned and bolted for the van.

The other guys in the band saw this and joined in the exit.

As Craig cranked the key and gunned Connie's ever faithful 350 engine, Jason pleaded with us to come back, claiming he would be forced to sell our gear to pay for the taxi ride home.

We saw the wisdom of his argument and once again exited the van to play the show.

We played the show, stowed our gear for real and returned to the beer drinker concentration camp to burn the drink tickets we'd been given.

We all went home happy....the end.
